Ingredients
-
500g of fresh or frozen peas
-
½ cup of water or ½ cup of breast milk or formula
-
Sprig of fresh mint (optional)
Directions
Place the peas in the steamer basket;
Use the steaming function on your steamer blender, steam for approximately 5 - 7 minutes or until tender (fresh peas may take slightly longer than frozen peas);
Take out the basket and remove the cooking water but keep to one side;
Place the cooked peas (and optional fresh mint) into the jug and blend, adding small amounts of the saved water until the desired consistency is met (smooth for younger babies);
If you prefer a creamier texture omit the water and add the optional breast milk or formula instead;
Portion into your reusable food pouches;
Serve with a food pouch spoon!
Recipe Note
Peas are naturally sweet making them an ideal first food for your baby.Peas also contain a high amount of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K and protein, which makes them a good source of nutrients that your baby needs for healthy development.
Don’t be shy to add small amounts of herbs and spices to your homemade baby purees. Mint is a great one to add as mint has been shown to help digestion and ease upset tummies. While you are only adding a small amount, mint is full of nutritional value and, combined with the peas, it helps to make a fresh tasting puree.
