So, you’ve made the decision to make your own baby food, which is much easier than you first think. But now, what do you do for baby food storage? What’s the easiest way to store homemade baby food that won’t take up all your fridge or freezer space, and won’t break the bank? We, at Cherub Baby, think we have the answer with our baby food storage pouches!
What are baby food pouches?
Baby food pouches are an extremely simple way to store your homemade baby food. They are exactly what they say they are – a reusable pouch that you can simply fill, seal, label and store. You can keep baby food storage pouches in the fridge or freezer, and you can warm them in your microwave, bottle warmer or in boiling water on the stove. And they are BPS and BPA free, giving you peace of mind about your little one’s health.
What is BPA and BPS?
BPA stands for Bisphenol-A, which is a substance found in all polycarbonate products like plastic baby bottles and baby food storage containers. The most common risk of products containing BPA is usually when it seeps through the food and into the body when exposed to heat such as from a microwave. The US Food and Drug Administration has also found that ingesting food containing BPA may cause some damage to brain development, affect behaviour and damage prostate glands of foetuses, infants, and children. Because of this study, many plastic bottle and baby food storage manufacturers have developed BPA-free products to address the health issues brought about by the concern around this chemical.
Bisphenol S (BPS) is used as a replacement for Bisphenol A (BPA), which is a common ingredient in polycarbonate plastics, but is now a banned material in Australia for baby bottles and sippy cups. Unfortunately, recent research has found that BPS may be just as bad.
In addition, a National Geographic article published in September 2018 even goes as far as questioning ‘BPA free’ labelling and directly mentions the similarities with BPS. While there is still controversy about how much damage the hormone disruption causes, experts generally agree that the younger or smaller the child or baby, the more at risk they are. Absorption rates in small babies and children are much faster than in adults, and this includes unborn babies.
So, it's a good idea to always check the labels of baby food storage products to make sure they are BPA and BPS free.

How to store baby food to maintain its freshness?
Store your homemade baby food in plastic containers like our reusable food pouches. It will keep for up to 2 days in the fridge, or 30 days in the freezer. But, make sure you label your baby food storage containers with the contents and the date food was prepared.
How do I use baby food pouches?
Simply pour or spoon in your homemade baby food, seal, freeze, store, warm, serve and dispose or re-use! It’s that easy – no mess and no fuss. To clean, you soak and wash them in warm soapy water and then sterilise with whichever sterilising method you use.
